Job Description

AIMS:

 

  1. To take responsibility for the development and the provision of psychological services to the male and female patients in the campus.

 

  1. To offer specialist skills in the assessment and treatment of patients as a resource of the psychology department.

 

  1. To contribute to research and development in the field of clinical / forensic or counselling psychology through membership of relevant regional and national organisations.

 

  1. To be registered with HCPC and maintain good CPD standards.

 

  1. To take a lead role in proving peer supervision and mentoring for more junior members of the department as well as undertaking delegated tasks.

 

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

  1. To be responsible for an Assistant Psychologist and to contribute to staff development by offering teaching, training, support and supervision.

 

  1. To give advice to the patient’s clinical team and attend multi-disciplinary meetings.

 

  1. To identify needs and priorities in providing a psychological service within the service.

 

  1. To develop and implement effective and efficient psychological services, within the resources available.  This will include the assessment of new referrals and newly admitted patients, the formulation of patients treatment needs and the provision and co-ordination of psychological treatment programmes on a 1:1 and group basis. 

 

  1. To be an active member of team.  To accept referrals from colleagues, of patients on other units who are considered suitable for assessment and treatment programmes developed as a specialist service and to cross-refer to colleagues when other specialist services are deemed necessary.

 

  1. To maintain all written records necessary for effective communication and for evaluating service needs and efficiency.

 

  1. To liaise closely with the Senior Nurses and the MDT in the development of psychology and lied treatment services within areas of responsibility.

 

 

  1. To liaise closely with other members of the patients clinical care team regarding assessment and intervention and attend relevant multi-disciplinary meetings within the service.

 

  1. To assist with the monitoring and review of all risk assessment processes and in particular with risk assessments undertaken by other staff in their areas of responsibility to ensure that such risk assessments are evidence based, validated by empirical research and based on sound psychological principals and practices.

 

  1. To supervise an Assistant Psychologist allocated to their area of responsibility with regard to both job performance and personal development including formal appraisal.

 

  1. To contribute to the development and delivery of in-service training programmes and assessment centres.

 

General

 

  1. To comply with the campus and Brookdale Care’s policies and procedures, paying particular attention to those that concern the confidentiality, security and safety of both patients and staff.

 

  1. To develop their knowledge and skills in both general aspects of forensic/ clinical and/or counselling psychology as well as a designated specialist area.

 

  1. To take responsibility for the implementation and evaluation of specific aims and objectives within the psychology department’s service agreement and operation department plan.

 

  1. To attend psychology service development and team meetings.

 

  1. To be responsible for one’s own personal development, attend performance reviews and review and work to objectives and identify training needs.
